November AnnouncementsREMINDER: Students must sign up by Wednesday of each week to receive a Certificate of Attendance to obtain a driver's license. Certificates will be given on Thursdays.
NOVEMBER 21, 2009: GADD Bake Sale beginning at 7:00 at Kim’s Restaurant and GADD Road Block from 2-4 (Seniors please see Tyler Camp for Sign-up sheet to work the road block.)
Due to the sudden death of Fish Fry Team Member Harry Walker, the York Family Benefit Fish Fry has been POSTPONED until December 3. We apologize for any inconvenience, but certainly sympathize with the situation.
There will be a York Family Benefit FISH FRY on Friday, November 20, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., at Mantachie City Park. The plates are $8 each. This is being sponsored by the West Itawamba Civitans and MHS Junior Civitans. Contact Mrs. McDuffa or any Civitan member or Mrs. Plunk or any Junior Civitan member for tickets.
Senior ads for the yearbook: $65 for 1/4 page, $95 for 1/2 page and $150 for a full page. See Will Knight, Tyler Camp, Anna-Clark Hall, or Ms. Nikki Buse for more information. The deadline is 11/20/09.
The next ACT will be December 12. The deadline to register without paying a late fee is November 6.
Students interested in running track need to see Coach Gilbert or Mrs. Cooper by Thursday, November 12, to sign up.
The school beauty pageant will be December 5 at 2 p.m. in the gym. You can pick up forms in the office.
Any juniors interested in interviewing for the Youth Leadership Program through Tombigbee Electric Power Association (TEPA) need to see Mr. Credille. Criteria: Student's home needs to be serviced by TEPA, student must have an overall B average and participate in extra-curricular activities, students must possess leadership skills and have a solid attendance record at school. The winner must be able to attend a workshop in Jackson March 3-5, 2010, and a workshop in Washington D.C., June 12-18, 2010. All expenses will be paid for the Washington trip!
Any seniors interested in the Nurse Mentorship Academy may get an application from Mr. Credille.
Congratulations to Jared Peters for placing 8th at the State Cross Country meet & for making the All-State Team. Congratulations to the boys' team for placing 6th overall.
Congratulations to Travis Dulaney and Will Knight (pictured below, l-r). They recently participated in the U.S. Senate Leadership Competition and did well enough to advance to the interview phase of the program, which will be in Jackson, MS. Only 15 students statewide advanced to this phase. The winners in Jackson will spend a week in Washington, D.C., with all expenses paid and will receive a college scholarship.
Attention All Senior Parents: GADD meeting November 9 at 6:30 Mantachie Methodist Church. The Herff-Jones representative will be here Thursday, November 5.
There will be an Anchor Club meeting at Briarwood Community Center November 2 at 7:00 p.m. Officers need to meet at 6:30.
Any senior interested in going to New York City needs to meet in Dr. Jackson's room Monday, November 2, at break.
Congratulations to the MHS cheerleaders for their performance at the Regional Competition on Saturday, October 31, in Booneville. They will advance to the State Competition in Jackson on December 19th.
The MHS Family was deeply saddened by the news that one of our students, Kevin Hugh York, Jr., lost his battle with cancer Friday, October 30. We observed a moment of silence in his memory during Homeroom. Please keep Kevin's family and friends in your prayers. The visitation was at McNeese-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral was at 2:00 Sunday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home.
