September 2011 AnnouncementsYou may check grades at www.engrade.com. Check with your child or your child's teacher for access codes. REMINDER: Students must sign up by Wednesday of each week to receive a Certificate of Attendance to obtain a permit. Certificates will be given on Thursdays. (The law has changed regarding licenses and renewals--no Certificate is required for licenses--only permits.) The school board policy for absentees as they apply to exemptions has been changed. Absences used to determine exemption must be excused. If a student has any unexcused absences in any class, he/she cannot be exempt from that class. Also, he/she has only two days after the absence to change an unexcused absence to an excused one. Parental notes can cover only five (5) days of absences each semester. Scholarship Essay Competition: 500-word essay on "If you had one thing in your life you could do over, what would it be and why?" Applicants must write an essay of no more than 500 words on the above topic, enroll in an accredited college or university in the fall of 2012, and be a Mississippi resident. Every senior who will be enrolling in college should apply for this. See Ms. Lindsey if interested. It must be postmarked by December 1, 2011. NINE WEEKS TESTING SCHEDULE: Monday, October 3--Testing in any area not listed below Tuesday, October 4--Social Studies/History classes Wednesday, October 5--Mathematics classes Thursday, October 6--English classes Friday, October 7--Science classes Anyone interested in applying for the Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship, see Ms. Meloney. You must be a senior, play at least one sport, and participate in at least one other school or community activity. The deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m., on October 2. The MHS Choir Boosters are selling two styles of Mustang yard signs for $10.00 each. If interested in purchasing a sign, please see Mr. Fox at MHS or Tina Harris at BancorpSouth in Mantachie. The two choices are shown below:
Mini Basketball Camp: September 26-28, 3:00-5:00 p.m., Mustang Corral, $30 per child. The deadline is Monday, Sept. 26. For a registration form and more information, click here. A recruiter from Blue Mountain will be here Monday, Sept. 26, at 9:00 a.m., in the Library. Any junior or senior interested in speaking to him may go by during break. Junior and senior teachers may take their students during 2nd period, if preferred. Big Brother/Big Sister applications need to be returned to Ms. Lindsey by Monday, Sept. 26. Interviews will be conducted Tuesday, beginning at 8:30. There will be a Junior Civitan meeting during break in Mrs. Plunk's room Friday, Sept. 23. Mantachie Fest Pet Show is at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 17. Science Club Dues must be paid by September 16 ($12.00). School Days Picture money and orders are due September 16. September 15, 2011--College Fair, 8:30-10:00 in the MHS Library (for juniors and seniors) Senior Tux & Drapes pictures will be made Wednesday, September 14. The sitting fee is $20. Progress Report Slips must be signed and returned by Tuesday, September 13. Books are Fun will be in the MHS Library through Monday, September 12. Any Junior or Senior interested in joining Big Brothers/Big Sisters need to see Ms. Lindsey. The program needs approximately 13 student volunteers. Volunteers will be assigned a student from the elementary school, and will have to meet with them at school during their PE or break periods. Student volunteers may not miss their own classes to do this. The volunteer and the assigned student must meet when both have free time. The 15th Annual Miss Fest Pageant will be Saturday, September 10. Click here for a flyer with information. September 9: PROGRESS REPORTS Congratulations to the following students for placing at the Delta Fair: Gabby Simpson (Grand Champion Angus Bull/Reserve Champion Angus Heifer) and Lane Walton (Reserve Champion Angus Bull/Grand Champion Red Angus Heifer) September 5: Labor Day Holiday Anyone interested in signing up for the Junior Civitan Club needs to see Mrs. Plunk by Friday, September 2. The $15 national dues must be paid by September 9. First home football game will be Friday, September 2. There will be a Junior Civitan Meeting in Mrs. Plunk's room at break Friday, Sept. 2. There will be a PEP RALLY at the end of 7th period Friday, September 2. |
